Amcor Flexibles received two awards at the Flexible Packaging Association’s (FPA) Annual Achievement Awards, held on March 3 in Naples, FL, USA. The FPA is a leading trade organization for flexible packaging converters and suppliers.

The Annual Achievement Awards honor packaging and converting organizations that demonstrate breakthrough technologies, printing techniques, package structures, environmental advantages and new end-uses.

The goal of the FPA Annual Achievement Awards is to showcase the diverse uses for flexible packaging.

Amcor Flexibles received a Gold Award in the “Technical Innovation” category for Dessiflex, desiccant impregnated films used products in medical, pharmaceutical and other markets.

Amcor’s Dessiflex removes moisture within a package and retards moisture penetration through sealed edges of the package. The patented technology incorporates desiccant into the primary packaging, eliminating the need for sachets and other types of moisture scavengers. 

Dessiflex removes retained moisture from packages exposed to high humidity sterilization. It reduces the environmental footprint by approximately 20% compared to a pouch with a desiccant sachet.

Amcor Flexibles also received a Silver Award in the “Sustainability” category for Amcor’s SachetLite, which is used for hard-to-hold products in home, personal care and other markets. SachetLite is an environmentally friendly alternative to standard high-barrier sachet packaging. It provides the moisture and oxygen barrier required for sensitive products, the chemical resistance needed for aggressive products and the robust package appearance desired for a premium brand image. 

According to the company, SachetLite’s environmental footprint is a reduction of at least 25% on most measures and almost 54% on water consumption.
